On September 12, participants from the Advanced Humanities & Aesthetics Study Program at Sun Yat-sen University visited PITO for an immersive exploration of porcelain, Kultur, and aesthetics at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Chaozhou Blue-and-White Porcelain Cultural Center.

More than a corporate visit, the experience offered a journey from Chaozhou’s porcelain heritage to the connections between traditional culture, zeitgenössisches Design, and everyday aesthetics.

Für PITO, porcelain has never been simply an object on the table. It carries the cultural character of a place while creating connections between people, Essen, spaces, and the way we live. The visit offered participants from different fields an opportunity to experience the depth of Chaozhou porcelain heritage firsthand and discover how traditional craftsmanship can find new possibilities in a contemporary context.

Discovering Chaozhou’s Cultural Heritage Through Blue-and-White Porcelain

Hier, participants explored the history of Chaozhou blue-and-white porcelain, traditional ceramic-making techniques, blue-and-white decoration, and the ways intangible cultural heritage is being preserved and reinterpreted today.

Each blue-and-white porcelain piece brings together the distinctive cultural character of Chaozhou, the aesthetics of the East, and generations of ceramic craftsmanship.

When traditional blue-and-white motifs meet contemporary tableware forms, Design, and dining environments, porcelain takes on new ways of expressing its heritage.

Rooted in Chaozhou, PITO has long explored the connection between traditional ceramic craftsmanship and contemporary life. From blue-and-white porcelain heritage to modern tableware design, from artisanal techniques to precision manufacturing, and from individual pieces to complete dining experiences in hotels and restaurants, PITO seeks to bring Chaozhou porcelain into the present—to be experienced, used, and discovered by a global audience.

When Traditional Craftsmanship Becomes a Hands-On Experience

Cultural heritage is best understood not only through observation, but also through experience.

Nach dem Besuch, participants took part in an intangible cultural heritage porcelain painting workshop. With a white porcelain plate as their canvas and cobalt blue as their medium, each participant created a unique blue-and-white porcelain piece by hand.

From the first idea to the final brushstroke, and from individual lines to complete patterns, traditional craftsmanship became more than something displayed behind glass. It became something to touch, Erfahrung, and create.

For the participants, the process offered an intimate encounter with the aesthetics of the East, while providing a deeper appreciation of the patience, precision, and creativity embedded in traditional porcelain craftsmanship.

From Porcelain to the Table: When Aesthetics Meets Everyday Use

As a premium ceramic tableware brand rooted in Chaozhou, PITO looks beyond porcelain itself to consider the value it creates when brought into real life and professional hospitality environments.

In hotels, Restaurants, and other premium dining settings, tableware serves both a functional and aesthetic purpose.

It must withstand frequent use while complementing the cuisine, space, and identity of the brand. It must meet the practical demands of hospitality operations—including durability, consistency, and reliable replenishment—while also becoming part of the overall dining experience.

PITO therefore continues to explore the balance between cultural heritage, design innovation, and professional hospitality applications.

From bone china and fine porcelain to blue-and-white cultural elements, PITO explores different combinations of materials, forms, and design languages. Through its design, R&D, and manufacturing capabilities, cultural inspiration is transformed into tableware designed to be used and experienced at the table.
