International Students Explore Chaozhou Porcelain Culture at PITO (11)

On August 17, 22 students from Sun Yat-sen University’s Greater Bay Area cultural study program visited the PITO Chaozhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Blue and White Porcelain Culture Museum for a cultural exchange and learning experience.

The students came from more than ten countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canadá, Australia, Francia, Japón, and Thailand. Through museum visits, ceramic painting, and shared dining experiences, they explored the history, artesanía, and contemporary development of Chaozhou Porcelana.

Discovering the Heritage of Chaozhou Porcelana

Chaozhou has a long history of ceramic craftsmanship, con blue and white porcelain and painted porcelain representing important expressions of its regional culture and Eastern aesthetics.

During their visit to PITO, the students learned about the history of Chaozhou Porcelain and how traditional craftsmanship continues to evolve through contemporary design and modern applications.

Rooted in Chaozhou, PITO has been engaged in the porcelain industry since 1982, combining traditional ceramic craftsmanship with modern design, fabricación, and applications in the hospitality and foodservice industry.

From Learning to Creating

The students also took part in a hands-on porcelain painting experience, creating their own blue and white patterns on porcelain panels.

By moving from observing traditional porcelain to creating their own work, the students experienced the craftsmanship in a more direct and personal way. The activity offered a closer connection to Chinese ceramic culture while introducing traditional craft through an engaging contemporary experience.

Porcelana, Dining and Cultural Exchange

The experience continued around the dining table, where PITO prepared authentic Neapolitan pizza, Chaozhou specialties, té, and refreshments for the students.

Young people from different cultural backgrounds gathered together, sharing food and experiences in a relaxed setting. Para PITO, tableware is more than a functional product. From traditional porcelain to modern bone china and porcelain tableware, it can also be part of the way food, diseño, cultura, and people come together.

The visit provided the students with an opportunity to experience Chaozhou culture through porcelain, artesanía, and dining, while taking home their own memories of the city and its ceramic heritage.

PITO will continue to explore the connection between traditional ceramic craftsmanship, contemporary tableware design, and global hospitality, bringing the cultural heritage of Chaozhou to more tables around the world.
